Creating the Workforce Children’s Services Need, Today and for the Future
We've seen a huge leap in demand for skilled care professionals everywhere, and that includes the many different types of Children’s Services in our communities. What matters most in these services is sourcing care staff who can really connect with kids and young people with special needs. It can be tough, but this is where we shine.
At Nurseplus, we understand the added pressure on local authority teams, residential services, schools, and specialist childcare providers. So, we’ve taken steps to tackle this head-on and support Children’s Services who need us. We’ve been recruiting, developing, and upskilling our staff to build a workforce that can offer safe, reliable, and quality support to the young ones in all types of care settings.
Responding to Growing Demand in Specialist Children’s Care

Children's Services covers a broad spectrum of essential support, including SEND provision, residential childcare, learning disability support, mental health assistance, holiday clubs, and family support services. As a result, we know our staff must be equipped to manage increasingly complex care requirements. For children dealing with trauma, behaviours that challenge, learning disabilities, and additional health needs, even more specialised support is crucial.
This is why we’ve been working on perfecting a recruitment strategy to help us find, on board and train carers with skills in children’s social care, residential settings, specialist education, and community support roles.
We’ve also put extra focus on sourcing staff who already have safeguarding frameworks, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour support strategies, in their skill set, then upskilling them so we can give our clients access to a pool of professionals ready to dive into specialist placements with confidence.
Investing in Qualifications and Professional Development

What about the staff we already have? We know that bringing in new heads isn’t enough which is why we’ve committed to developing our existing workforce to ensure they are fully equipped to meet the needs of Children’s Services.
We are actively supporting our staff by giving them the opportunity to undertake and achieve Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Children and Young People’s Care. These recognised qualifications strengthen knowledge in safeguarding, child development, communication, professional boundaries, and supporting children with additional needs.
Through structured learning pathways, mentoring, and continuous professional development, we are actively creating clear progression routes within children’s care which enhances competence and confidence but also promotes stability within the Nurseplus workforce.
The Services We Support

Both our renewed recruitment and workforce development efforts are helping us directly support a wide range of Children’s Services in our communities including:
Safeguarding and child protection support
Early help and family intervention services
SEND and disability care packages
Short breaks and respite provision
Support for children with emotional and behavioural needs
Community-based and in-home specialist care
By building and nurturing a diverse and well-trained pool of care professionals, we are able to respond flexibly to short-term, long-term, and emergency staffing requirements.
Building Strong, Lasting Client Partnerships

At the heart of all this, is our commitment to building genuine relationships. We want to work closer with local authorities, residential providers, schools, and specialist services to really get a handle on the challenges they are facing right now.
The Children’s Services we currently support appreciate our openness, reliability, and proactive communication. In these strong partnerships, we find we are better positioned to predict what’s needed and plan our support smarter and more effectively. This way, together, we can keep the care going smoothly for the kids and young people we support.
More specialist children’s care professionals are needed to meet demand and this requires innovative recruitment and meaningful workforce development. With our targeted hiring, investment in Level 2 and Level 3 children’s qualifications, and a strong commitment to working together, Nurseplus are dedicated to strengthening the children’s care sector in our communities.
Our mission is simple yet effective: to make sure Children’s Services have access to the skilled, dedicated professionals, every child needs. We’re ready to ensure every child and young person gets the safe, reliable, and compassionate care they deserve.
